TOMRA’s advanced sorting machines inspect millions of individual product pieces per hour, typically recovering five to ten percent through higher yields and better utilization.
That’s equivalent to approximately 25,000 trucks of potatoes per year!
We provide sorting solutions for dry meat and bone meal used as a raw material for the processing of dry petfood. Meat and bone meal often contains foreign material. One of the last steps of the production process is sieving. The oversized material can be sorted before it is reintroduced to the grinder. Our optical sorter significantly reduces the amount of foreign material in your final product.
We are able to detect and remove all kinds of foreign material such as plastics (hard and soft), rubber, metal, wood, stones, glass and even bones.
As a meat and bone meal processor, you typically deal with a high incoming defect load in your raw materials. The premiumization and humanization trend in the petfood industry drive your dry petfood customers to demand a higher quality product. Pieces of plucker fingers, rubber bands, wood, stones… it is no longer acceptable.
We are able to detect and remove even the smallest colored defects. Colored particles stand out in the final product and need to be avoided as much as possible. Even defects with a similar color as the product can be detected based on their structure or biological characteristics.
TOMRA’s Nimbus optical sorter operates with a free fall principle. This gives the sorter a small footprint and allows to create a double-sided inspection of the product whilst it is in free fall. This in-line sorter can handle high capacity and requires little maintenance. The Nimbus is very robust and can deal with steamy and dusty environments.
Besides the common foreign material, bones can also be targeted as a defect. By doing so, you can influence the ash content of your final product to a certain extent. Increasing the protein level may lead to a more premium product and can assist you in offering more differentiation to your customers.
The Nimbus BSI is a real breakthrough for nuts and raisin processors.
